Sustainability Story : B Corp
Since January 2023, Dataflex is a certified B Corp. This certification recognises all efforts Dataflex took in the past in regards to the environment, its customers and workers. It also proofs that Dataflex is a transparent, sustainable and trusted partner that doesn’t only run a successful business, but also gives back to the environment and people.
What is B Corp?
Certified B Corporations, B Corps for short, are companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. B Corps have undergone a rigorous assessment, called the B Impact Assessment, and an audit conducted by the international non-profit organisation B Lab.
The B Impact Assessment consists of five impact areas: Environment, Workers, Governance, Customers and Community.
Companies must complete this survey, which includes up to 250 weighted and unweighted questions across the different impact areas and impact business models.
To be certified, companies must score a minimum of 80 out of 200 points.
What does the B stand for?
B stands for Benefit for All.
The B Corp movement aims to transform our economic system from one that benefits only a few to one that benefits all. B Corps aim to positively impact all stakeholders - workers, communities, customers and our planet and balance profit with purpose.
Is it easy to get certified?
The median score of ordinary corporations using the B Impact Assessment as a tool to measure their impact is currently 50.9.
This shows that it is not easy to pass the assessment without going above and beyond in the five impact areas. After completing the comprehensive assessment and scoring over 80 points, companies seeking certification must pass B Lab's audit and substantiate their claims.
Only when companies can provide solid evidence to support their answers in the assessment can they be certified.
But even after certification, the work is never done!
Any company that sees B Corp certification as their final goal will have a hard time getting certified. Because B Corp reflects a mindset that sees an ongoing holistic approach to sustainability in the broadest sense as central to everything you do.
Each certified B Corp must re-certify every 3 years and continually improve its score to be successful.
How many certified B Corps are there?
The B Corp movement is growing rapidly. As of February 2023, there are more than 6,000 companies in 86 countries and 159 industries. They include household names such as Patagonia, Ben & Jerry's, Rituals and Triodos Bank.
Why become a certified B Corp?
Certification is a powerful way to demonstrate a company's commitment to sustainability in a holistic way. It sets them apart from greenwashing claims in the marketplace and instead builds credibility and trust for their business.
The B Impact Assessment also provides the company with excellent guidance on how to improve in each impact area.
How did Dataflex perform in its BIA?
